LTC and low-PAH cables

In response to an ongoing commitment to meet the changing market demands, LTC can provide low-PAH cables, which comply with the new European limits and able to meet the stringent performance requirements.

In fact, LTC rubber cables, such as H07RN-F H07RN8 H05RN-F-F-F H05RR H07BN4 H07BQ-F-F, can be supplied in a low PAH version.

PAHs stands for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons.

PAHs or IPA are hydrocarbons, consisting of one or more rings that can be found in nature in the coal and the oil. They are formed during incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, fats, natural gas and organic compounds in general. PAHs are highly polluting and harmful to the atmosphere and to human health.

Many actions have been undertaken to reduce the concentration of PAHs in products made of rubber and plastic. As a matter of fact, PAHs are present in a wide range of consumer goods such as sports equipment, household items, clothing, footwear and children’s toys. In some cases, items containing PAHs or IPA may present risks to human health, if they are swallowed, absorbed by the skin or inhaled.

The European Commission has indeed published the Commission Regulation (EU) No 1272/2013 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) as regards polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and has therefore decided that “limits on the PAH content in the accessible plastic or rubber parts of articles should be set, and the placing on the market of articles containing any of the PAHs in concentrations greater than 1 mg/kg in those parts should be prohibited”.
