On February, 7 LTC has had the pleasure of welcoming one of its clients, Sada Cavi company.
The meeting was planned to update the customer on those actions that LTC has taken to adapt to the new European Construction Products Regulation, also known as CPR.
The CPR concerns all those cables that are to be installed permanently in buildings and in other civic engineering works.
The new CPR EU 305/2011 regulation aims at providing reliable information on construction products, as well as, on evaluation methods that need to be aligned and included in the harmonized technical specifications, to ensure better security and quality of cables and electric systems sold on the market.
This regulation introduces the Mandatory Declaration of Performance (DoP), a declaration the manufacturer has to write before selling cables on the market. This legal document will be available to the end user in paper or electronic formats.
All permanently installed cables will therefore be classified according to the different classes (7 in total) of the environment where they were installed. This CPR concerns the following cables features: the resistance (still working on it), the reaction to fire and the release of dangerous substances.
The new EU 305/2011 regulation will become mandatory from 1 July 2017, after a period of coexistence with the current legislation.
However, all this does not exclude the use of non CPR certified cables for different projects such as buildings to engineering works or outside the EU.
